So we are scrapping the aging shuttle program and abandoning NASA pet project to go back to the Moon.
GOOD!!!!
I found the shuttle program (a technological marvel for its time) to be three steps back in our already fledgling space program. I think former astronaut Buzz Aldrin was right. If we need to land on the moon, it should be Phobos orbiting Mars. What would we gain by landing back on the Moon at this time: more dust and moon rocks and possibly trace amounts of water that may or may not exist?
We should have already scrapped the shuttle program a decade ago for more advanced space vehicles and loftier goals. Honestly, I believe we have the technology and even the money. What is missing is the will and the backbone to convince others this can be done.
Oh and to those who are protesting the end of the shuttle program and claiming this threatens our national security: ADAPT OR SHUT UP!
